Priority Watersheds
The Partnership is focusing on five priority watersheds - Dutch Bill, Grape, Green Valley, Mark West, and Mill - which were chosen because:
- Low streamflow is considered to be a critical factor limiting salmonid survival in these streams;
- Significant opportunities for improvement appear to exist in these watersheds;
- They are critical to the recovery of the coho population in the Russian River; these streams either support or recently supported coho populations and have been identified as core or Phase I areas in the
Final Recovery Plan for Central California Coast Coho Salmon Evolutionarily Significant Unit. NMFS 2012 (NMFS Coho Recovery Plan);
- They represent a variety of water uses, social circumstances, and management opportunities and could provide useful models elsewhere.
